Los Angeles Romance Author’s invites you to a rare opportunity to hear Jane Porter, Liza Palmer and Megan Crane - three dynamic speakers – talk on the subject of Voice. Join me, the program director for this event, at the Sportsman’s Lodge Hotel in Studio City on Sunday, March 27th to learn more about how to improve your novel or script with Voice and style, Voice and theme, Voice and (best of all) the writer’s market.
The underlying tone of a story that can be recognized in a sentence or two, is a remarkable tip-‘o-the-hat to a writer’s Voice. Conan Doyle’s “Elementary, my dear Watson.” is an example. Movie scripts are brought to life by actors that understand the writer’s Voice and play their parts accordingly, like Clint Eastwood in dirty Harry: “Go on punk; make my day.” , written by Rita and Harry Fink, or Meg Ryan’s ground breaking faking-it-love-making performance in Nora Ephron’s ‘When Harry met Sally’, followed by the line, “I’ll have what she’s having.”, delivered by an extra. All enact that something special that makes us feel like we are in the story. We can r-e-a-l-l-y relate because the characters are so well defined. But there’s a trick happening here… it’s actually not the character; it’s the writer’s Voice. The Voice takes your hand, explains the rules and walks you from scene to scene, always whispering into your ear. The Voice colours and convinces you, until you know it as though it were your own.
Come hear it from the pro’s - Jane Porter, Liza Palmer and Megan Crane - each with a unique personal voice. Learn how to hone your own Voice with the entertaining help of these three, multi-published authors.
