You punk! Oh…, sorry; yooouuu Steampunk!
What?! What the heck’s a steampunk?
That’s a good question: what is Steampunk? It’s what I asked when I first heard about it, and now I and many of my writer friends are adding it to our own genres.
Steampunk is “industrial revolution fiction” or, as the Urban Dictionary states, “What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner." Wikipedia alludes to Steampunk as being all things analogue.
But let’s leave it to a Steampunk pro and let her explain it; Suzanne Lazear writes Steampunk and can tell you all about the sub-genres, ideology, characters and archetypes; the science and technology, erotic and the dark side of Steampunk (and much more) during her November 2010 online course called “Writing Steampunk from Aether to Zeppelin”, hosted by Niki Chanel through LARA, the Los Angeles Romance Writers, a chapter of Romance Writers of America (RWA). The class runs from November 1-30, with a short break for Thanksgiving.

Or… you could go on being a plain ol’, ordinary, everyday punk. Who wants that?!
