International Motorcycle Show ~ Long Beach
Cycle World takes over the Long Beach Convention Center this weekend for their International Motorcycle Show.
A steady stream of racing fashion-clad enthusiasts (just like me!) attended the event. Every age made an appearance; every nationality, every size, every level of experience was there, all with one thing in common: the love of freedom. Even if you are one of the few in the group that doesn’t ride, there is an appeal in the concept. Wheels have liberated people since 8000 B.C., so says ThinkQuest, and we have been improving it ever since.
Hundreds of early-birds joined us, flocking to the displays for a look at the newest innovations, each with a personal ‘something’ in mind: gloves, helmets, tires, leathers – whatever it takes to enjoy a Honda, Triumph, Norton or Vintage – they were all there. Saddles and shoes sold well as wrestling played on the flat screens in the ‘TapOut’ lounge.
Adventure bikes and ‘rice rockets’ got equal attention inside while the Ducati Freestyle exhibition thrilled a crowd outside. Nick ‘Apex’ Brocha and Ernie "Yes Man" Vigil performed ‘Crazy Larries’, Seat Standers and Burn Outs, making it look easy but please, don’t try this at home (without instruction and training – it’s more dangerous than it looks!) These guys are two of the best in the world at stunts like Switchbacks, Pirouettes and Island Wheelies. My favourite was when they did the same thing at the same time, inches from each other. Poetry in motion! Art.
My friend Christine London and her personal assistant came along to try out the demo tours. There was a long wait due to popular demand but the ride was worth it.
From the parking lot to the stunt riders, a good time was had by all!
