French Boy

After six weeks of fun and frivolity, my French friend has flown back to Paris. We managed to get him pretty drunk the night before, got him up at the crack of dawn, fed him pancakes (which he put sugar on - yum) and keep him company 'til the last possible moment. You say that was mean?

Well, hey, we started out in Tahoe for a 4th of July (all day) party at another friends place on the lake. Smoke from a thousand Californian fires didn't get us down, though we were concerned for other Californians and the natural destruction.

Hiking, tubing, and BBQ's were cut short when we went to northern California. There we visited Fortuna, Ferndale, Lost Coast, Fern Canyon (where Jurassic Park II was filmed) and the Lady Bird Grove of the rain forest there (where the Ewok Adventure of Star Wars was filmed).

Next, to Los Angeles. SoCal beaches, more BBQ's, swimming, movies and Pann's restaurant in Hollywood (where Pulp Fiction was filmed). Thank you, perfect weather!

Then on to San Francisco. Chinatown, Pier 49 (I like to call it Alcatraz Pier), Little Joe's and the 2008 Romance Writer's conference at the Marriot before we headed back to Tahoe.

Lake surfing at high noon (sun screen a must), still more BBQ's, hot-tubbing, sushi, burgers (his favouite!) tapas and finally a blow-out meal at the Lone Eagle Grill (dress-up evening).

Heading again for LA, we drove down 395, which turned out to be beautiful and educational. We stopped off at the Mono Lake Tufas and saw that the area is indeed healing from the LA water theft days. We got in late and up early to jam to Universal Studios for a perfect day of fun in the sun, getting wet at almost every attraction. We didn't have much desire to get up early next day for Magic Moutain / Six Flags so we accepted an invitation to a fabulous birthday party of a friend in PV. Live band, swimming, loads of great food and drink. Oh yeah, drinks. Only babies left without getting inebriated! It's a good thing we couldn't accept the first day of the party (went for a week!) - cuz the birthday boy driving around LA in a double-decker bus taking his friends bar hopping! Too much fun, n'est pas?!

So... do you still think I was mean to French Boy?
