It's November - National Novel Writing Month and I'm taking part. One might think that cheating would be the way to start, you know, get a furlong ahead of the others. Since it is the constancy that will count, I'm thinking that's not really being dishonest. Besides, you did write the thing, just not after the starting pistol was fired. So, these little ideas go through my head about what others might be doing and how they cope with the long hours of 'spewing' and I get registered (at http://www.nanowrimo.org ). Then I figure a little test to see how it works...maybe I could write: the quick fox jumped on the dog. No, that's not it; the fast fax chased the log. Nooo; the dogs tore the fox to shreds. No, no, no! Instead I write:
........
“Why?”
“Well, I’m related to him. I have always had a strong interest in him and now I want to know more.”
“What makes you so sure you are related?”
“I have papers proving the lineage… but I also have this.” In her hand was a small object that caught the sunlight. As it was passed to him for examination the flash of gold became obvious.
Upon closer inspection he gasped, “Pink gold!” then in a murmur “like from KV63!” His expression changed abruptly. “Where did you get this?”
........
I don't know where it came from yet I have heard from many other authors that it is the same for them, so I keep writing. The excitement of the journey practically brings tears to my eyes. My heart beats faster and I have a case of the tinglies - I can't stop. This, then, is why write... I want to know what happens next!
BTW, it's not too late if you want to join. Go to http://www.nanowrimo.org/ and fill in the blanks.
